How Spanish Income Tax (IRPF) Works

Spain's personal income tax (IRPF) is a progressive tax with brackets ranging from 9.5% to 24.5% at the state level. Each autonomous community adds its own tranche, making the total effective rate vary significantly depending on where you live. Madrid, for example, is one of the lower-tax regions in Spain.

The tax is applied not to your full gross income but to your taxable base, which is gross income minus deductions such as the work income reduction, personal minimum, and family allowances for children. This means lower earners pay proportionally much less than higher earners.

This calculator uses 2024 AEAT brackets and simplified regional rates. Results are estimates intended to help you plan. For official filings, always use the AEAT Renta WEB tool or consult a certified tax advisor.
